Classroom Planning

Classroom Planning forms a fundamental part of my teaching practice; both in the creation of schemes of work and in the delivery of its content through effective lesson planning.I place the student at the centre of the learning experience by determining key learning outcomes and tailoring my teaching to help students achieve these aims.

This is evident from the scheme and lesson plans that I have included below.

These First Year students were guided through the initial exploratory phase of investigation, by listening to a rich, evocative written passage, which described a series of mechanical car-parts. Addressing various principles of sculpture (such as; weight, balance, form, scale, space, and surface), students created a construction from these primary sources. Observational line drawing was used to record and convey the material and tonal qualities of their mechanical constructions. These observational drawings were worked, and re-worked in different media to transition to drypoint printmaking. Knowledge was gained of key printmaking processes like stretching paper, engraving, inking a plate, registering correctly, and operating a printing press.

This lesson plan demonstrates the teaching practices used to achieve the learning outcomes of the project. Effective questioning was essential in fostering a range of student thinking processes. Also highlighted within this plan is the differentiation strategies used to cater for a range of special educational needs. Post- lesson reflections and evaluations of students' work were vital in the progression of the scheme- informing what I needed to address in the following lesson.
